Crazy Mother Trucker, winner of the Speedhorse/Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby here in March was heavily favored at 3-5 odds but he was no match for the lone Appaloosa, Captain Bucko.
Captain Bucko found his stride shortly after the start, and despite drifting to the inside rail, flew to win by a head in :16.761 seconds over a fast track. The clocking was just one-hundredth off the track record of :16.751 for the distance set in 2010. Owned by Racin RNs of Wapanucka, Okla. and trained by Luis Villafranco, Captain Bucko was ridden by Adalberto Candanosa.
SW Eye Candy was second, edging the favored Crazy Mother Trucker by a head for the runner-up spot.
Captain Bucko was 7-2 in the wagering and paid $9.20 to win, $4.20 to place and $2.40 to show. SW Eye Candy returned $7.20 to place and $4 to show. Crazy Mother Trucker paid $2.60 to show.
The impressive win was the eighth from 14 career starts for Captain Bucko and it was his third score at Remington Park. A 3-year-old Appaloosa by CARTEL SUCCESS (QH) from the Whirling Fastball (QH) mare Joyball, Captain Bucko earned $10,476 for the win to run his overall total to $116,061.
