Sandra Beck / Coady PhotographyHOUSTON, TX—JULY 29, 2010—The lightly raced First Royal Feature broke his maiden by one length in the final of seven trials Thursday night at Sam Houston Race Park to set the top qualifying mark in the Sam Houston Maiden Classic. The ten fastest qualifiers from 62 head that started in the trials will return on August 14th to contest the $15,000-added final. The race for 3, 4 and 5-year-old maidens as of July 6th will be contested at 350 yards. Racing for his breeder's Cal and Luanne Humphries, First Royal Feature completed the 350 yards in :17.758 seconds for the top time. Jerry Yoakum was aboard the FEATURE MR JESS 3-year-old. Saddled by C. Dwayne Gilbreath, the brown gelding was making his fifth career start, third this season. He finished second in his final as start as a two-year-old in July 09 and was second in his first out of 2010 at Remington Park in April. First Royal Feature the finished seventh in a trial for the Heritage Place Derby on Mary 9th. Gilbreath and Yoakum also teamed to qualify Deflowered for Lucas Racing, Inc. The filly won the second trial by one length in :17.804 for the third best overall time. The 3-year-old is 1-0-1 in six lifetime starts. Antonio Delgado, Jr.'s Goose Bumps won the first trial by 3/4 's of a length under jockey Francisco Ramirez, Jr. The gelding is trained by Manuel Vega, Jr. The 4-year-old sorrel was making only his second lifetime start and his first of 2010. He finished off the board in his only start as a 3-year-old.
