RIO ROJO JESSIE RETURNS TO WIN GRADE 1

Fair Meadows PhotoTULSA, OK—JULY 24, 2010—Rio Rojo Jessie ran her record to five wins from six starts Saturday when she won the $120,380 Speedhorse Sprint Futurity(G1) for Paint and Appaloosas at Fair Meadows Race Course. The home-bred FEATURE MR JESS filly racing for Donald Kelly battled the coupled entry of Valdarama and Prize Jive throughout before prevailing by a neck at 350 yards. Valdarama broke on top, just in front of stable mate Prize Jive. Rio Rojo Jessie split the pair just before the wire for the win. Saddled by Eddie Willis, the bay filly completed the 350yards in :17.494 seconds to earn a 96 speed index. The winner's purse of $45,745 pushed the filly's career earnings mark to $94,153. Her only loss in six starts this season came after being disqualified for interference when she won the Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity(G1) at Remington Park May 29th. She also won the Oklahoma Paint Horse Futurity(G1) on March 27th. Trainer Dee Keener saddled the second through sixth place futurity finishers, while the coupled entry of Valdarama and Prize Jive raced for owner Tom Denham. Valdarama bobbled the break and dueled throughout before getting out finished at the wire. The Country Quick Dash filly was ridden by G.R. Carter, Jr., and picked up $20,465 for her effort. Ridden by Adalberto Candanosa, Prize Jive finished a nose of the leaders for third. Also by Country Quick Dash, the sorrel filly who came into the race as the fastest qualifier earned $13,242. Completing the field were Flashing Memories, Flying T Rudy, Rip Roarin Moves, Jacis Flashy Girl and Bail out. Flashem Larry and Willy Awesome were each scratched. |
